FCPH Strongly Encouraging Prevention Measures as Positive COVID-19 Cases Rise

(Fargo, ND) -- As both hospitalizations and positive cases of COVID-19 continue to increase steeply locally and statewide, residents are reminded to practice prevention measures to limit the spread of the virus in the community.

As we go into the long holiday weekend, Fargo Cass Public Health urges caution with regard to events and gatherings.

  • On September 1st, the North Dakota Department of Health reported 85.2% of people hospitalized with COVID-19 were not fully vaccinated.
  • Hospitalizations state-wide are up 154% in a one week period.
  • According to NDDoH, over the last 7 days, new positive cases have increased by 19%.
  • Currently 20% of diagnosed cases state-wide are under the age of 18 years. In one month’s time, the COVID case rate for children has increased 7 fold.

"The Delta variant is the predominant strain circulating in the community, which we know is 2x as contagious as previous variants," said FCPH Public Information Officer Holly Scott in a release to WDAY Radio. "Vaccination is the best tool we have to combat this virus for those who are eligible." She adds that other layered prevention strategies are also recommended, including wearing masks in public indoor spaces, avoiding large gatherings such as indoor sporting events or concerts, and staying home if you are sick or have a known exposure to COVID. The CDC has also recommended unvaccinated individuals to avoid travel, and if they must travel, to utilize prevention strategies.
