(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Police Department has it's newest dynamic duo, and they're a first of their kind.

Officer Elizabeth Miller and K9 Toby started at the department as a team officially Friday, February 4th, but this partnership has been a long time in the making for Miller.

"I used to know people who were close to my family that had K9s," said Miller, who herself is a five-year veteran of the department, previously serving as a patrol officer before making the switch. "I've always just been so fascinated in what dogs are able to do in law enforcement."

Officer Miller says there are three other K9s in the department, but she and Toby are the only apprehension and explosive detection unit.

As for Toby, he was originally born in the Czech Republic, and Miller is his second handler. He didn't say much in our interview with Officer Miller, but she says he's excited to get going in his new role with Fargo PD.
