First Case of West Nile Identified in Cass County

(Cass County, ND) -- Some frightening news despite mosquito numbers being down in the Fargo-Moorhead area thanks to the current drought.

The CDC has confirmed the first case of West Nile in our area.

"Mosquito nuisance is near historic lows, recent weather conditions and historical prevalence of WNV suggest heightened awareness and caution however," said Cass County Vector Control in a statement released to WDAY Radio.

There had been initial reports earlier this week that there were nearly a dozen possible cases of West Nile in North Dakota, with some results still pending testing.

The CDC does say that using bug spray containing Deet and avoiding standing water  are two key things you can do to avoid getting bit by mosquitos as more rains move through the area.
