Moorhead Man Dies in Montana Skydiving Accident

 

An 81-year-old Moorhead man is dead following a weekend skydiving accident in Montana.

According to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 12:45 p.m. Saturday, the Marion Fire Department, along with deputies from the Flathead County Sheriff's Office, responded to the Skydive Lost Prairie event for reports of an individual involved in a skydiving accident. The individual was identified as 81-year-old Gerald F. Fischer, of Moorhead, Minn.

Statements from witnesses indicate the seasoned skydiver experienced a 'hard opening' when opening his parachute. After opening the parachute, Fischer began a counter clockwise turn until landing in a pasture. Fischer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fischer was an experienced skydiver, with more than 2,000 jumps.
