Grafton Man Faces GSI Charge

A 19-year-old Grafton man is facing a Class A Felony Gross Sexual Imposition charge following an incident on Tuesday in the City of Grafton.

At approximately 6:41 p.m. Tuesday, authorities were called to 820 McHugh for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers were informed that an individual under the age of 15 wanted to report she had been sexually assaulted by 19-year-old Arnold Silva.

The victim told police that she had met Silva in Leistikow Park in Grafton on Tuesday at approximately 3:27 p.m. She explained that, while the two of them sere sitting at a picnic table, Silva began touching her inappropriately. She said his hands remained outside of his clothes.

He then picked her up and attempted to bring her to the bathroom area of the park. While this was happening, the victim was screaming for Silva to stop, while she was striking him. She believed Silva was going to force intercourse. Silva dropped the victim before getting to the bathroom, at which time she called a friend to come and get her away.

He appeared in front of Northeast District Court Judge Barbara Whelan yesterday for a bond hearing, at which time Whelan set Silva's bond at $30,000 cash or surety bond, with conditions.

He is due back in court on August 26 at 9:30 a.m. for his initial appearance.
