NDDEQ launches North Dakota Stewards Initiative

The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) is pleased to announce the kickoff of its North Dakota Stewards Initiative.

“North Dakotans are proud of their clean air and water, pristine lands and wide-open spaces,” said initiative coordinator Angela Seligman. “As stewards of North Dakota’s environment, we all can have a role in keeping our legendary state as clean as possible.”

For the month of September, the NDDEQ is encouraging residents to log activities that reduce waste and save energy. These include activities such as walking instead of driving, recycling or composting instead of throwing waste in the trash, using reusable bags instead of paper or plastic bags, and carpooling. At the end of the month, the NDDEQ will calculate how these activities helped save energy and money, how much waste was kept out of landfills, and how much vehicle emissions were reduced.

To get involved in the North Dakota Stewards Initiative, visit https://deq.nd.gov/NDStewards/. Participants can download a daily eco log to help track savings throughout the month. At the end of the month, those savings can be entered on the website. The NDDEQ will then calculate the total savings and announce the results of North Dakota’s hard-working and eco-conscious stewards.
