Daudt issues statement on BCBS coverage of insulin

House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, issued the following statement regarding Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s announcement today that they will offer insulin coverage to thousands of members with a $0 co-pay beginning on January 1, 2020.

“Democrats continue to push a plan that would raise insulin costs for all Minnesotans—today’s news is another signal that’s the wrong approach if we want to make insulin more accessible and affordable,” said Leader Daudt.

In a news release, Blue Cross and Blue Shield specified that today’s announcement applies to Tier 1 and Tier 2 insulin options as a covered benefit for plans offered to individuals and families (both on and off MNsure), small employers, and most large employers.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s announcement follows news earlier this month that both Medica and UCare would cap their out-of-pocket costs for insulin at $25 for a month's supply.
