Grand Forks Police respond to crash

Two Grand Forks residents were taken to the hospital Wednesday with unknown injuries, following a crash Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Grand Forks Police Department, officers responded to the crash at the intersection of 4th Avenue South and Cherry Street at approximately 4:07 p.m. The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2014 Ford Fusion, driven by 22-year-old Rekha Darjee, Grand Forks, was eastbound on 4th Avenue South, when she made a left turn at the intersection with Cherry Street.

At that time, 18-year-old Shayanne Berry, driving a 2009 Honda Accord, was westbound on 4th Avenue South.

The crash caused the Ford Fusion to strike a traffic signal post at the intersection. The Honda Accord left the roadway and struck trees near the intersection.

Both Darjee and Berry were transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance; their condition is unknown.

Darjee was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way at a controlled intersection.

The Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Ambulance also responded.
