Man arrested following chase through Grand Forks, East Grand Forks

 

Grand Forks Police arrested a man Friday afternoon just after 12 p.m. near I-29.

According to police, at approximately 12:21 p.m., officers from the Grand Forks P-D were dispatched to the area of the Kennedy Bridge, to assist East Grand Forks Police, who were pursuing a stolen vehicle bound for Grand Forks.

Officers responded, and were notified the suspect was westbound on Gateway Drive from North Columbia Road. Police located the vehicle southbound on Stanford Road, and attempted a stop. The vehicle turned west onto 6th Avenue North, then south onto 43rd Street, where it was found unoccupied in an apartment complex parking lot.

Police conducted a search of the area, and, after a brief period, the suspect was located hiding in trees near I-29. He then fled on foot across I-29 and was taken into custody on the west side of I-29 after a foot chase.

He has been identified as 21-year-old Joe Melvin, and was arrested for possession of stolen property, reckless driving, fleeing in a motor vehicle and on foot, outstanding warrants and other charges relating to the pursuit.
