This September, the West Fargo Public Library is joining the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-up Month, a time to remind parents, caregivers and students that a library card is the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning. Throughout the month, the West Fargo Public Library is celebrating with community events aimed at helping people sign up for library cards and become library “power users.”
Activities throughout the month will include pop-up libraries at local businesses and drawings for gift cards to local businesses for anyone who signs up for or renews a library card. The library will also host a “Be a Library Power User!” class at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, to help people learn how they can get the most out of their local library. Residents are also encouraged to follow @WestFargoLibrary on Facebook and Twitter for tips on maximizing their library experience.
Visit the library at one of the following locations in September to sign up for a library card, renew your card, return books, learn how to check out e-books, grab a take-away craft, and pick up some West Fargo Public Library swag.
- 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Hooligans Bar & Grill (509 32nd Ave. W, West Fargo)
- 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at West Fest Family Fun (Pioneer Place, 308 Sheyenne St., West Fargo)
- 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Thunder Coffee (Pioneer Place, 308 Sheyenne St., West Fargo)

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card. For more information about how to sign up for a library card, please visit the West Fargo Public Library in person or online at westfargolibrary.org/librarycards.
