USDA makes resources available for agricultural producers hurt by natural disasters

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcing agricultural producers may sign up for natural disaster assistance beginning on September 11, 2019:

“With North Dakota producers greatly impacted by natural disasters this year, this announcement is welcome news. I appreciate Secretary Perdue always working to protect our agricultural community when it is negatively affected by farming disruptions, and I look forward to working with him and with our producers to make sure they are able to access this assistance.”

These funds are made available as a result of the disaster supplemental package Senator Cramer supported and Congress passed earlier this year. Secretary Perdue gave the following statement announcing the assistance program:

“U.S. agriculture has been dealt a hefty blow by extreme weather over the last several years, and 2019 is no exception. The scope of this year’s prevented planting alone is devastating, and although these disaster program benefits will not make producers whole, we hope the assistance will ease some of the financial strain farmers, ranchers and their families are experiencing. President Trump has the backs of our farmers, and we are working to support America’s great patriot farmers.”
