UPDATE: Woman dies, man suffers serious injuries, in motorcycle crash

 

UPDATE: The North Dakota Highway Patrol has now identified the individuals involved in a fatal crash Saturday between Grafton and Park River.

The 43-year-old woman, who died at Unity Medical Center, is Laura Zelewski, of Grafton. The driver, who suffered serious injuries, is 50-year-old James Olafson, of Edinburg. Neither person was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.

ORIGINAL STORY: A 43-year-old Grafton woman is dead, and a 50-year-old Edinburg man has serious injuries, following a crash on Saturday afternoon between Grafton and Park River.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle was westbound on North Dakota Highway 17. At the intersection of Highways 17 and 18, east of Park River, the driver took evasive action to avoid colliding with a vehicle that was turning left, across the westbound lane.

The Harley Davidson overturned, ejecting both occupants.

The driver was transported to First Care Health Center by ambulance, with serious injuries. The passenger was transported by ambulance to Unity Medical Center in Grafton, where she died.

The names of the driver and passenger are being withheld, pending notification of family.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
