More than 300 coaches and high school athletes from the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) will gather in Fargo for the fifth annual EDC Leadership Academy on August 1 for leadership level training.

From 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., and again at 3:00 p.m., keynote speaker author, motivational youth speaker, and former team captain Craig Hillier will share messages of inspiration from his book High School Sports Leader, the ultimate handbook for team leaders and captains. Hillier has compiled the inspirational strategies and essential skills for a season of significance into one resource. No longer will athletes wonder how to effectively lead their team.

There will be three concurrent 30-minute sessions as part of the academy: Ryan Gellner, local official/umpire NDHSAA official, will present Player/Official Relationships; A.J. Jacobson, former North Dakota State University men’s baseball player, Tylie Irwin, current South Dakota State University women’s basketball player, and Brandon Metz, current North Dakota State University wrestler will present on College Athlete Presentation; and Samantha Fuhrmann, North Dakota State University sports dietician, will present on Sports Nutrition.

Author Craig Hillier’s presentation is sponsored by the Eastern Dakota Conference. Hillier has a passion to work with students, educators, and professionals. He has spoken to more than two million people since 1990. Hillier’s high-energy programs and contagious enthusiasm captivates audiences throughout the United States. His programs are known to be up-beat, fun, and educational.

Participating Eastern Dakota Conference schools districts are Devils Lake, Fargo, Grand Forks, John Paul II Catholic Schools, Valley City, Wahpeton, and West Fargo. Each district’s high school(s) can bring up to 40 coaches and students to participate in the Leadership Academy.
