UPDATE: Lewis and Clark Elementary given 'All Clear'

1:35 PM UPDATE: Xcel Energy and the Fargo Fire Department have completed their testing and have given an all clear to return to the building.  It has been determined that the odor is not hazardous and that the building is safe.  It is believed the odor was from a malfunctioned sump pump in the building.  A new sump pump has been installed and fresh water is being flushed through the system.

Students are being brought back to the school.  Dismissal process will occur as normal at Lewis and Clark and after school activities will be held as usual.  Buses will run as normal.

ORIGINAL STORY: Students at Fargo's Lewis and Clark Elementary School have been evacuated, according to a Fargo Public Schools spokeswoman this morning.

"Today, the Lewis and Clark Elementary School administrators were made aware of a concern of an unidentified smell in the building.  Fargo Public Schools takes student and staff safety very seriously; therefore students and staff have vacated the building to allow Xcel Energy and the Fargo Fire Department to investigate the smell," a statement from Fargo Public Schools reads.

All students and staff are safe.

District officials request that no one go to Lewis and Clark. Additionally, parents and guardians are asked to refrain from picking up students at Fargo South High School at this time. Dismissal instructions will be updated for all families if necessary.
