President Trump establishes a Task Force on Missing and Murdered Native Americans

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement today praising President Donald Trump’s Executive Order establishing a task force on missing and murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives:

“Native Americans face some of the highest rates of violence in our country, an issue the federal government has not historically done enough to help correct. I am glad President Trump is prioritizing efforts to address the kidnapping and killing of Native Americans. I hope his work encourages Congress to advance important legislation on this topic, such as Savanna’s Act and the Violence Against Women Act.”

Senator Cramer helped reintroduce Savanna’s Act this year and urged the full Senate to vote on it quickly after the Senate Indian Affairs Committee passed it out of committee last week. The Senator also helped introduce the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019 last week, which includes important measures to combat violence on tribal lands.

According to the White House, President Trump established this task force in order to address the concerns of Native American communities regarding missing and murdered people, particularly missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. Click here to read President Trump’s executive order.
