Burleigh County approves refugee resettlement

After more than four hours Monday night, and testimony from several members of the Burleigh County community, the Burleigh County Commission voted 3-2 to consent to allow refugees to resettle in the community.

Commission members Jerry Woodcox, Mark Armstrong and Kathleen Jones voted in favor; while Commission chair Brian Bitner and member Jim Peluso voted against.

The motion made Monday night caps the number of refugees allowed at 25 in 2020.

Burleigh County joins two other counties in North Dakota, Grand Forks and Cass, in consenting to continue allowing refugee resettlement.
