Explosion levels Fargo garage

At 11:55 p.m. on Thursday, Fargo firefighters responded to a report of an explosion that occurred in a garage located at 702 University Dr. S.  When firefighters arrived, they discovered an attached two stall garage had collapsed on two vehicles inside the garage.  Tenants were evacuating the house as firefighters were arriving and reported hearing a large explosion coming from the garage.

An initial investigation indicated the cause of the explosion was a leaking propane cylinder in the garage.  One individual in the area of the explosion received minor injuries but declined medical care.  An initial damage assessment is not available but the garage is considered to be a total loss.

The Fargo Fire Department would like to remind everyone to store propane cylinders outside.  In the event you smell gas indoors, leave the building immediately and call 911.  Additional information on fire safety can be found at www.fargofire.com.  You can also follow the Fargo Fire Department on Facebook at www.facebook.com/FargoFireDepartment.
