Senator Kevin Cramer delivers maiden speech

Today, U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) delivered his maiden speech, a major address given on the Senate floor outlining his background and priorities for serving in the Senate.

“While a maiden speech one year into a term may seem odd to some,” began Senator Cramer, “I appreciate the opportunity to reflect on the past year and to create a clear vision for the future.”

In his remarks, Senator Cramer discussed his faith, family, upbringing, committee assignments, and the importance of being accessible to the people he serves.

“What I have learned most from my time in public service is how important the people are,” said Senator Cramer. “The individual and collective wisdom of the people of North Dakota is not something to be taken for granted nor wasted.”

In outlining his vision for serving in the Senate, Senator Cramer vowed to take on the bureaucracy by working to create a government more focused on helping people and less consumed with defending the arbitrary processes they themselves create.

“Call it whatever you want: the deep state, misguided but well-intentioned public servants, or power hungry civil employees. But I will call it as it is: an unelected, unaccountable bureaucracy that has codified corruption,” said Senator Cramer. “They have turned their own interpretation of guidelines into infallible law, placing the creation and implementation of their policies and processes above the needs of the American people.”

Before his speech began, Senator Cramer was introduced by fellow North Dakota Senator John Hoeven.

“I am grateful to Senator Hoeven,” said Senator Cramer. “He is a skilled, accomplished leader who works tirelessly on behalf of North Dakota. He is a great friend and a great mentor.”
