Winter storm possible this weekend

The National Weather Service says another winter storm is possible this weekend.

A significant winter system expected to impact the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest this weekend.

The weather service says winter impacts start on Saturday, peak on Sunday. There is a chance of significant snowfall, greater than six inches, most likely in the southern Red River Valley. In addition, gusty winds will combine with snowfall to create blowing and drifting snow.

There is also a chance for a wintry mix, which could create some icing.

The weather service says they're still uncertain as to how much snow and ice areas will get, the precise timing and location of the weather and how long the impacts will linger, into early next week.

If you have any plans in the Dakotas and Minnesota this weekend (like travelling back from the holidays), please check the forecast often for latest updates as details become clearer and confidence increases on impact severity, timing, and locations. You may want to consider changing travel plans, especially Sunday.
