West Fargo Public Schools Creates New Support & Wellness Coordinator Position

At their regularly-scheduled meeting on August 13, the West Fargo School Board approved an administrative staffing request for a Support & Wellness Coordinator. This position is the first of its kind for West Fargo Public Schools and is expected to have a lasting impact on students’ mental and physical well-being.

The position will work collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction to support the district’s strategic plan by creating, implementing, and continuously improving an academic, multi-tiered system of support and a guaranteed and viable curriculum (GVC) for mental and physical health.

The Support & Wellness Coordinator will work with administrators to implement positive behavior supports in alignment with the guaranteed and viable curriculum and district’s behavioral matrix. This will be carried out by collaborating with district counselors and health and physical education teachers to focus on students’ social-emotional learning, physical health and wellness, and meeting the related North Dakota state standards. The position will also be responsible for facilitating staff professional development opportunities related to mental health, assessment, and curriculum.

Following the approval of the position, Mrs. Dawn Miller was named as the district’s first Support & Wellness Coordinator. She has worked for West Fargo Public Schools since 2007 as a Special Education Coordinator.
