Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding of Spirit Lake Wind Energy Project

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced a $1 million federal grant to the Spirit Lake Tribe to install a wind turbine that will produce 1.5 megawatts to help power 12 tribal facilities and about 350 residential consumers.

“In every corner of North Dakota harnessing wind energy can help supply local communities with the power they need,” said Heitkamp. “This is true for North Dakota’s tribal communities as they work to build up their local energy resources that can spur their economies forward. These federal funds will help the Spirit Lake nation invest in a new wind energy so that folks in Indian Country have access to affordable energy to power their homes and businesses.”
