Sens. Cramer, Casey honor National Assistive Technology Awareness Day

U.S. Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced a Resolution, which the Senate passed last night, designating March 4, 2020, as "National Assistive Technology Awareness Day."

“Assistive technology devices and services are necessities, not luxury items, for millions of individuals with disabilities and older adults, without which they would be unable to live in their communities, access education, or obtain, retain, and advance gainful, competitive, integrated employment,” the Resolution states. “The availability of assistive technology in the workplace promotes economic self-sufficiency, enhances work participation, and is critical to the employment of individuals with disabilities and older adults.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported one in four individuals in the United States have a disability, including seven million children and 40 percent of adults 65 or older.

The Resolution commends those who serve individuals with disabilities and the professional organizations and researchers dedicated to increasing access to assistive technology for those in need.
