West Fargo Public School cancels out-of-state travel

The following statement was released by the West Fargo Public School District: Due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19 and after considering guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the difficult decision has been made to cancel all out-of-state trips scheduled for our students in March 2020 (does not apply to co-curricular events or events occuring in Moorhead, MN at this time). We will continue monitoring conditions in order to make decisions for out-of-state trips scheduled for April and May. The safety of our students and staff is always our first priority, and we feel that this decision has been made with that in mind, even though we regret not being able to provide these opportunities for students.

The CDC has been clear that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases grows each day, some large gatherings have already been cancelled with more cancellations possible in the near future, and social isolation is one of the recommendations for preventing the spread of the virus. These circumstances are even more prevalent in large metropolitan areas where some of our student groups were scheduled to go.

Administration and trip advisors are working with the travel planners to determine what, if any, refund and/or rescheduling options are available. If your child was scheduled to go on a trip, we will keep you informed as decisions are made regarding their group.

We apologize for the short notice this provides to some groups, but hope you can understand this decision was made from a place of safety for not only the students and staff going on the trips, but to protect everyone in our district as much as possible.
