Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding to Help Secure Northern Border

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs,  announced Friday $1,563,497 in federal funding to enhance the coordination of federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement efforts to protect our Northern Border.

“Proper preparation, coordination, and training are key ingredients to securing and protecting our Northern Border with Canada,” said Heitkamp. “One of my top priorities since joining the U.S. Senate has been to make sure federal agencies are coordinating effectively with state and local law enforcement departments on border security and this federal funding will help improve that collaboration to keep our communities strong and safe. The new Northern Border Strategy, which was developed after my bipartisan to secure the Northern Border became law, called for improved partnerships with state, local, tribal and international partners, and this funding advances that critical goal. This federal funding through Operation Stone Garden will enhance our ability to secure the border and help keep North Dakota communities safe places to call home.”
