Stage goes dark at Trollwood Performing Arts School

It will be a tough summer for those involved with the Trollwood Performing Arts School, as they have announced that the 2020 season at the school has been cancelled.

Kathy Anderson, Director of the Trollwood Performing Arts School, told WZFG Radio’s Steve Hallstrom, on Sunday’s edition of The Nightly Review, that the staff for the program were scheduled to be coming to Trollwood next Friday, May 1.

“The folks that come in on the early end are the technical staff,” Anderson said. “We build all of our sets on site.”

Anderson calls the cancellation a “heartbreaking decision we had to make.”

While students weren’t scheduled to arrive at Trollwood until early June for the 2020 season, Anderson says the other programs put on by Trollwood “were ramping up.”

The cast and orchestra for this summer’s season program, Cinderella, had already been selected.

With this season ending a 42-year run of successful seasons, Anderson says the ending date “was a hard end,” as the company Trollwood works with, Jade Presents, has other events past the traditional end date of Trollwood. Anderson says the team at Trollwood looked at options of extending, but ultimately, had to come to the tough decision.

She said, however, that plans for the 2021 season will be announced in the coming weeks.
