Grand Forks Mayor says April 30 is not likely

Grand Forks Mayor Michael Brown says that the targeted April 30 re-start date for the North Dakota economy likely won’t happen. Brown made his comments on Thursday’s What’s On Your Mind radio program with Scott Hennen.

“We’re just starting to see the spread,” Brown, an OBGYN doctor and the Mayor of the City of Grand Forks, said.

But, the Mayor said, the restart will be a tiered one “when it’s appropriate.”

When asked whether or not it would be appropriate for local mayors to plan the restart and send those plans to Governor Burgum and his staff, Brown said that seems like a reasonable thing to do.

“I think that’s proactive,” he said. “I think a plan is very important, and it’s very important to communicate that with the Governor and his staff.”

Brown says the economy has taken a hit, but it’s best to do what is safest, when it’s safest.

“The economy will come back, people won’t,” he said.
