Grand Forks Bicyclist Struck By Car

On 8/31/18 at approximately 3:39 PM, the Grand Forks Police Department was notified of a crash where a motor vehicle had struck a bicyclist.  A 12 year old male bicyclist was attempting to cross S. Columbia Rd. at the intersection with 47th Ave. S.  A 2015 Cadillac driven by 66 year old Duanna Gonsorowski of Grand Forks had just entered the intersection following the light changing to green, when the juvenile crossed S. Columbia Rd. in front of her.  Gonsorowski attempted to steer out of the way, but the juvenile was struck. He was evaluated by Altru paramedics and transported to his residence with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.  Nobody has been cited as a result of the crash, and nobody else was injured.

The Grand Forks Police Department was assisted by the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Health Systems on the crash.

The Grand Forks Police Department would like to remind drivers that school is back in session, and extra caution should be exercised when driving near schools, particularly around opening and closing time.  Also, parents are asked to speak with their children about crossing safety, in order to minimize these types of incidents.
