Truck With Hot Tar Overturns

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating an incident in rural Grand Forks County Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Ryan Panasuk, a 2011 Volvo truck tractor with a tanker trailer was traveling east on 6th Ave NE, which is Grand Forks County Road 7, pulling a trailer loaded with hot tar (hazardous material).

County Road 7 was forced to be closed to clean up the mess. It was closed for approximately 6 ½ hours.

Near 8th St NE, the vehicle partially left the roadway to the right. It then tipped onto its right-hand side and slid into the south ditch. The trailer ruptured, spilling the load on the roadway and in the south ditch.

The 21-year-old Woodlands, Manitoba, driver was transported by ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with injuries.

Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office, Thompson Fire, and Grand Forks County Highway Department all responded with the Highway Patrol.
