Active investigation underway following assault in Clay County

On Tuesday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office became aware of incident that took place in Baker Minnesota, which is in rural Clay County. We were informed by a family member of the victim that an assault had taken place and the victim was currently hospitalized with injuries from the assault. 

The Sheriff’s Office contacted the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (MN BCA) to assist with the investigation. The MN BCA Crime Scene team and MN BCA Special Agents assisted at the scene and with interviews. 

The victim, a male from Baker, is currently hospitalized at a Fargo hospital. To maintain the integrity of the investigation, his identity and condition will not be released at this time. 

Steven Krogsgaard, 40-year-old male from Baker, was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Clay County Correctional Facility for 5th Degree Domestic Assault and 3rd Degree Assault. 

This is an active on-going investigation. No further information can be released at this time.
