Virtually surrounded by colleagues at a surprise ceremony, two West Fargo educators were recently honored with district annual awards.

Beth Karnik, a language arts teacher at Sheyenne High School, was awarded the 2020 – 2021 Professional/Licensed Staff of the Year Award.

Mrs. Karnik came to the district in 2011 as a high school language arts teacher at West Fargo High School. Since 2014, she has been a language arts teacher at Sheyenne High School and has also served as the department chair at Sheyenne High School for the past four years.

As this year’s award winner, Mrs. Karnik was described by her nominator as “loving and gregarious... she has a wonderful ability to reach all students and come to them on a level they appreciate. Her room is defined by a culture of mutual respect and gratitude because she has invested in all of her students since day one.”

Coralie Farkas, an administrative assistant at Harwood Elementary School, was awarded the 2020 – 2021 Classified Staff of the Year Award.

Mrs. Farkas came to the district in early 2001 as a paraprofessional for South Elementary School. From 2001 – 2007, she was a paraprofessional at Harwood Elementary School before transitioning into her current role as the school’s administrative assistant.

As this year’s award winner, Mrs. Farkas was described by her nominator as “the glue that keeps our school together. She goes above and beyond her assigned duties to make sure that every student, staff member, and parent has the items and information they need to make the school day successful... We depend on her expertise and knowledge of all that happens daily in our school, and she never lets us down.”
