West Fargo High School STEM students' video named best in state

A team of West Fargo High School students submitted a video to the 2019 - 2020 World of 7 Billion student video contest and earned the Best in State award for North Dakota. Aiden Benson, Tristan Hastings, Alexsandra Cudney, and James Selberg created a 60-second video investigating the global environmental challenge of electronic waste in connection with our rapidly expanding world population.

The contest is part of an international program, Population Education, aimed at highlighting the impact of the world’s increasing population. It is open to middle school and high school students, whose video entry must focus on one of three global challenges: sustaining water systems, ensuring economic opportunities, and improving climate resiliency. An estimated 5,000 students from 35 countries and 46 U.S. states and territories submitted 2,600 entries to this year’s contest. Nearly 19,000 student-made videos have been created as a direct result of this contest over its nine years in existence.

As the state’s award winners, the team will receive a cash prize from Population Education.
