Heitkamp Meets with Garrison Diversion to Discuss Water Management in North Dakota

In a meeting with North Dakota’s congressional delegation, Heitkamp and the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District discussed the transfer of the Oakes Test Area and the Central North Dakota Water Supply project, which would provide water service contract for water from the McClusky Canal for industrial purposes for Stutsman Rural Water District, Jamestown, Carrington, Central Plains Water District and Tuttle and South Central Regional Water District.

“In North Dakota, we know the importance of water management and the challenges that we face when we have too much or too little of this precious resource,” Heitkamp said. “Hearing directly from the Garrison Diversion, which is on the front lines of helping areas across the state access North Dakota’s water resources, is critical to keeping our rural communities strong and making sure they have the water resources and protection they need. Finding solutions that benefit all communities can be challenging, so it’s important to have everyone at the table to ensure North Dakota’s rural communities have the resources they need to thrive.”
