Aggravated Assault in Grand Forks

 

The Grand Forks Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that occurred Wednesday night at around 5:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of Gardenview Drive.

The assault was reported as a “disturbance in progress.”
Preliminary investigation revealed a 20 year old female Grand Forks resident had been assaulted with a knife by a male who was acquainted with the victim.  
20 year old Grand Forks resident Akmal Azizov was located on scene and taken into custody by responding officers.  Azizov has preliminarily been charged with Terrorizing, Aggravated Assault and Criminal Mischief; these charges are under review at the Grand Forks County States Attorney’s Office.
The exact extent of the victim’s injuries are not known at this time but are not believed to be life threatening.  

The Grand Forks Police Department is confident this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.  The suspect and victim in this incident are known to each other and it appears the victim was targeted by the suspect.
