Hot Tar Spill in Grand Forks County

The North Dakota Highway Patrol now says it was a 2011 Peterbilt that tipped in an accident Wednesday in Grand Forks County.

According to the Patrol, 21-year-old Bradley Jackson, of Woodlands, Manitoba, was driving the Peterbilt east on County Road 7, pulling a trailer with hot tar, when the vehicle’s right side wheels left the roadway to the right.

The vehicle then tipped on its right-hand side and slid into the south ditch.

The trailer ruptured, spilling the load onto the roadway and into the south ditch. The Patrol says approximately 6,000 gallons spilled, but was contained to the immediate crash area.

Jackson was transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance, with what the Patrol classifies as “life-threatening injuries.”
