Grand Forks Police officer to be laid to rest

 

Grand Forks today will lay to rest a community member, Grand Forks Police a fellow officer and the North Dakota National Guard a soldier.

29-year-old Cody Holte, a member of the Grand Forks Police Department, died in the line of duty on Wednesday, May 27, while responding to a call for backup to two Grand Forks County Sheriff’s deputies, who were serving civil service papers at a Grand Forks apartment.

Holte, a 2010 graduate of Norman County West High School, began his career with the Grand Forks Police Department in 2017; and, in addition to being a member of the police force, Holte was a member of the Water Rescue team.

In addition, Cody was an active member of the Army ROTC for three years during college and then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Cody was currently serving in the North Dakota Army National Guard as a First Lieutenant. His units were out of Jamestown, the 817th Combat Engineers, and presently Lisbon with the 815th Construction Engineers.

Holte is survived by his wife, Amanda; and their son, Gunnar, who was born in 2019. He is also survived by parents Bret and Tracy (Redland) Holte, sister Alexis Schmidt, twin brother Brady (Dani) Holte, nephews Ames and Henry, grandparents Nathan and Kerry Redland, great grandmother Ardyce Holte, father and mother-in-law Tim and Sandy Christian, brother-in-law Matt Christian, grandmothers Shirley Christian and Carole Eide, many aunts, uncles and cousins, all of his brothers and sisters in blue, ROTC, and United States Army.

Visitation begins today at 10 a.m. at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, with the funeral scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Grand Forks Police ask that anyone attending be in their seats and quiet by 12:30. While the funeral ceremony begins at 1 p.m., there are portions of the pre-ceremony that are important to those uniformed personnel attending.

A processional will follow from the Ralph Engelstad Arena to Halstad, Minn., where Holte will be buried.
