Hydrant flushing begins today in West Fargo

The City of West Fargo water division will begin a hydrant flushing project Wednesday, June 10. During the project, crews will flush targeted hydrants located in the Monday garbage collection route. Work will begin on the south end of the route and continue north. Maintenance has already been conducted on the rest of the hydrants in the City of West Fargo.

Hydrant flushing is conducted to flush out large sections of the water main at a high velocity to ensure proper hydrant and water distribution system operation. Residents within the Monday garbage route may notice water discoloration during the flushing and are directed to run cold water through their faucets until the water runs clear. If water quality does not improve please contact Public Works at 701-433-5410 for further assistance.

Residents may sign up for the city's Adopt-A-Hydrant program which allows citizens to claim responsibility for shoveling out fire hydrants after heavy snowfalls. Community members are encouraged to volunteer to take care of local infrastructure, such as fire hydrants, in severe weather. To Adopt-A-Hydrant, sign up here.
