Behavior Task Force Formed in Fargo

The West Fargo School District, Fargo School District, Rural Cass Special Education Unit and South Valley Special Education Unit have been working in collaboration to determine the best solutions to serve elementary students with significant behavioral challenges. The entities have been meeting since last fall to find common solutions to provide supports for this population of student. Now, a task force is being formed. Previously, the Fargo School Board gave the green light to the project. And now, the West Fargo School Board has, as well.

West Fargo Public Schools Superintendent Beth Slette says this task force will study the issue of significant behavioral challenges. The study comes after administrators in the southern valley have noticed a trend—students are displaying complex behaviors.

Slette says there is one specific age group being focused on by the task force—Kindergarten through fifth grade.

With the work of the task force, it is the hope of administrators across the region to be able to help those students achieve their academic strengths.

The task force will not just be made up of administrators from the different entities.

Not only are the local schools involved, but Slette says professionals from the North Dakota Department of Human Services, and North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, have been consulted and will work with the group during the meetings, which will go through November.

Slette says any of the school superintendents or administrators are open to hearing comments or concerns about the issues surrounding the school districts.
