Grand Forks Man Faces Multiple Charges

A 20 year old Grand Forks man faces multiple charges after an incident last Wednesday.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Akmal Azizov, of Grand Forks, is charged with attempted murder, terrorizing, criminal mischief and stalking.

Last Wednesday, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers were called to a location within the City of Grand Forks for a disturbance between an adult male, later identified as Azizov, and an adult female.

Azizov and the female had dated briefly in January 2018, but the female had recently cut all communication with Azizov.

Azizov told officers that he recently decided to kill the female, as he believed she was the cause of all the stress and negativity in his life. Azizov had purchased a folding pocket knife, with an approximately two to three inch blade, made of silver, for the specific purpose of killing the female.

Azizov followed the female around the UND campus and elsewhere, but said he could not find the right time to kill the female victim. After the final attempt, he followed her to her apartment building, on Garden View Drive. He lost his nerve to kill the woman right away, and drove him – retrieving his skateboard and heading back to the location.

Azizov smashed the woman’s car’s back window, and, when she came out, he attacked her, grabbed her from behind, attempted to cut her throat several times, at which time the woman fell to the ground.

Witnesses were able to distract Azizov, and the victim got away to a safe place until police arrived. The victim had three non-life threatening lacerations to the left side of her neck, an abrasion and bruises on the front and back of her left shoulder, along with a bump with abrasion on the back of her head.
