Grand Forks County Deputy returns to work after being shot in leg

After 53 days recovering from a gunshot wound to his leg, a Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department Corporal has returned to the department he serves.

Ron Nord was injured in a gunfight while serving eviction orders on Samallah Pendleton and Lola Moore. Moore was also killed in the gunfight, along with Grand Forks Police Department Officer Cody Holte. Nord was released the next day. Nord and fellow officer, Kelly McLean, were serving the orders. Holte and fellow Grand Forks PD officer Pat Torok responded as backup when called in regard to the gunfight that had ensued.

Grand Forks County Sheriff Andy Schneider says the department is happy to have Nord back among his fellow officers.

“This was a moment we’ve been waiting for 53 days,” he says. “Watching Ron walk in the door yesterday with a smile on his face was priceless. We’re thankful he’s been able to heal physically and mentally and is ready to serve his community again.”

Schneider says Nord has been missed around the department.

“Who knew you would miss the sounds of Christmas songs being whistled in the hallways year-round,” he says.
