West Fargo Public Library and Little Red Reading Bus to celebrate the end of summer and RED Day through joint virtual event

After a summer filled with activity, the West Fargo Public Library and the Little Red Reading Bus of West Fargo are ending the season with a virtual celebration.

The virtual RED Day End of the Summer Celebration will take place 6:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12.  The celebration will include story time, a special reading from West Fargo fourth grader Braelynn Brown, a proclamation from Commission President Bernie Dardis, crafts and reading activities.

While the event is free and open to the public, interested patrons must register to participate by 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the event website. The first 40 families will have a celebration kit reserved at the library in their name. The kits include one copy of “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson per family and enough materials for each child to participate in the live craft activity. Those who do not receive a kit may still participate in the event by following along with the story on-screen and using materials they have at home. The materials and instructions list will be published on westfargolibrary.org before the event.

“RED Day is a reminder to people of all ages to Read Every Day,” Lauren Nephew, West Fargo Public Library youth services manager said. “Through this event, we want to encourage our community to keep reading while celebrating the groundbreaking Summer Reading Program season we completed.”

Through the Summer Reading Program, more than 500 people registered to track reading hours on the West Fargo Public Library’s Beanstack site over the summer. Those who tracked reading hours qualified for prizes, including gift certificates from local businesses. Summer Reading Program participants can pick up any earned prizes at the library until Aug. 12. Participants are also able to provide feedback about this year’s summer program by taking a short survey at www.westfargolibrary.org.

This summer’s program also included a new delivery service for library patrons with help from the Little Red Reading Bus.

“We are incredibly proud to have worked so closely with the West Fargo Public Library to provide access to books throughout this unprecedented summer,” Little Red Reading Bus Project Coordinator Stephanie Shea said. “We are looking forward to this event to celebrate reading.”
