Temporary Westbound I-94 lane closures on Saturday in Fargo

Over the weekend, North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) contractors will install a new overhead sign along Interstate 94 (I-94) in Fargo. The sign will replace the current “Welcome to North Dakota” sign on the overhead truss, just west of the Red River bridge.

To allow crews enough room to safely place the sign, there will be temporary lane reductions throughout the day on the interstate. Motorists can expect the left two westbound lanes to be closed beginning at 6 a.m. and reopening late afternoon.

On Saturday, August 8, motorists can expect the following traffic pattern along I-94 between the Red River Bridge and University Drive:

  • OPEN: Single outside westbound lane
  • CLOSED: Left two inside westbound lanes

This project work is being done across the state to replace all “Welcome to North Dakota” overhead signs. Drivers should use caution while traveling through the active work areas.

The NDDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones stating, “road closed.”
