More than 44,000 students from 185 North Dakota schools dined on food products from their own state yesterday, during the 17th Annual Agriculture in the Classroom and Pride of Dakota School Lunch Day.

Deputy Ag Commissioner Tom Bodine was at Nedrose Elementary in Minot to eat with students and discuss the importance of agriculture in their own lives.

Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota’s state school superintendent, said Agriculture in the Classroom and Pride of Dakota School Lunch Day “promotes good nutrition, and it also informs our students about North Dakota’s importance as the breadbasket of the world, and about the endless variety of foods produced by our farmers and ranchers.” She was at Will-Moore Elementary School in Bismarck, where she served as assistant principal and library media specialist from 2007 to 2012.
