Cavalier Man Jailed on Domestic Aggravated Assault Charge

A 23-year-old Cavalier man is jailed after a 9-1-1 call to his home resulting from a possible suicidal subject.

On Tuesday, authorities were called to the home in Cavalier, North Dakota. At approximately 9:24 p.m., authorities arrived on scene, where they could hear yelling from the inside of the home. The responding officer entered the home, where the suspect, Cody Stiefel, was yelling at girlfriend. Authorities say they could hear the victim crying from inside the kitchen.

The victim said Stiefel put his hands on her, an allegation in which he denied. Stiefel was detained at 9:26 p.m., and taken to the squad car. The officer reported a heavy odor of alcohol coming from Stiefel.

The victim stated she was trying to get away from Stiefel, went upstairs to the bathroom and, before she could close the door, Stiefel pushed the door open and entered.

She says Stiefel was trying to grab ahold of her head, she tried pushing him away, and he subsequently began choking her, cutting off air to her airways. She also said she had hit the back of her head on the bathroom floor.

Stiefel also reportedly hung up the phone when 9-1-1 was first called.

Stiefel faces two class C felony charges of domestic aggravated assault and interfering with a 9-1-1 call.
