Federal delegation reacts to Trump Supreme Court nominee

North Dakota Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer have issued statements after President Donald Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to be the newest US Supreme Court justice.

"Today, it is my honor to nominate one of our nation’s most brilliant and gifted legal minds to the Supreme Court," President Trump said. "She is a woman of unparalleled achievement, towering intellect, sterling credentials, and unyielding loyalty to the Constitution: Judge Amy Coney Barrett."

Senator Cramer called on the Senate to consider President Trump’s nominee earlier this week. In interviews and at hearings, Senator Cramer has outlined his intention to ask the Supreme Court nominee about her views on federalism and the proper role of states in a federalist system.

“This is an excellent choice by President Trump, who is fulfilling his constitutional responsibility to put forward a well-qualified nominee. Judge Amy Coney Barrett seems made for this moment. She is a brilliant legal scholar who has come face-to-face with the appalling attacks of the far-left and won. While these radicals have already started repackaging their cookie-cutter, anti-Christian attacks on her and gone after her family, I trust President Trump is putting forward a nominee in Judge Barrett who is ready for this fight. I look forward to learning more about her and visiting with her to discuss her nomination," Cramer said in his statement.

Senator Hoeven also issued a statement saying, “We congratulate Judge Barrett on her nomination to the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett has an outstanding record of accomplishment as well as a strong record of upholding the law, rather than legislating from the bench. Also, she received bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate when she was confirmed to serve on the U.S Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. I look forward to meeting with Judge Barrett as the confirmation process gets underway.”
