Students to Attend Cultural Kaleidoscope Ukraine Presentation

Many residents of our region come from a European background, but few young people know much about the culture of their ancestors.

WHAT: Learning Bank Experience – Cultural Kaleidoscope Ukraine Presentation

WHEN: Monday and Tuesday, October 1 and 2, 2018 for three performances daily at 9:10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. (50-minute presentation)

WHERE: Auditorium, South High School, 1840 South 15th Avenue, Fargo

The Learning Bank, a non-profit organization that brings cultural performances to elementary students across Fargo, West Fargo, and Moorhead public school districts and private schools, will host more than 2,500 area second graders at South High School on October 1 and 2 to watch a cultural presentation on the Ukraine by Cultural Kaleidoscope, a professional performance group from Kansas City, Missouri.

Fargo Public Schools will send a total of 882 second grade students throughout all six performances during the two days of the Learning Bank cultural presentations.

The students will learn a bit of European history, better understand cultural traditions of the Ukraine, and hear Ukrainian folk music played on authentic native instruments. Several students will even be invited to perform onstage with the musicians.

Fargo Public Schools Performing Arts Curriculum Specialist and Learning Bank Executive Director Denese Odegaard said, “The goal of the Learning Bank is to provide students exposure to a variety of musical, cultural, and historical presentations. Students involved in the arts hone skills beneficial to learning, such as collaboration, perseverance, problem-solving, and creativity. Children who engage in music and the arts at a young age tend to increase their verbal, social, and cognitive abilities.”
