Amazon to bring 500 full-time jobs to Fargo area through state's first fulfillment center

“This is an exciting day for North Dakota for so many reasons,” North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum said.

A worldwide company, whose roots in North Dakota date back to 1999, is now bringing a new state of the art facility to Fargo.

Amazon announced Friday morning that they will be bringing North Dakota's first ever fulfillment center to North Dakota, with sights being set to launch in the summer of 2021. Mike Flannery, Midwest Regional Director of Operations for Amazon, says the new addition will bring 500 full-time jobs to North Dakota.

“Amazon’s ability to open new facilities is not something that can’t be done without strong local support,” he said. "Amazon’s presence in North Dakota means more than great jobs."

Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney says the idea was first proposed in June.

The facility, which will span over 1.3 million square feet, will add continue investments into North Dakota. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $239 million dollars, in addition to $168 million into the GDP.

“This massive construction project will have a tremendous and positive effect on the economies of Fargo, metro, the state of North Dakota and the entire region," Mahoney said. “We are cementing Fargo metro’s status as a regional leader in commerce and economic engine in the Red River Valley."

Senator John Hoeven was also heavily involved in the process of bringing Amazon to Fargo, and lauded the company's decision on Friday.

“This is a welcome investment in Fargo and the surrounding communities, bringing more than 500 new, full-time jobs to the region,” said Senator Hoeven. “That’s why we worked with the City of Fargo and the Army Corps to secure the permit needed to construct the building on this property. Developments like this continue our state’s record of growth due to the business-friendly environment we’ve worked to build. Further, this facility is a good fit with our state’s UAS industry as it works to develop a broad range of applications for unmanned technology, like package delivery. That’s a partnership we will continue working to advance as it will unlock new potential within our economy.”
