Senate Votes to Advance Kavanaugh Nomination

The United States Senate voted this morning to advance Maryland’s Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the United States Supreme Court to a final vote on Saturday.

The Senate voted 51 to 49 to advance his nomination.

Kavanaugh has faced allegations of sexual assault in the past couple of weeks, most notably an assault on Christine Blasey-Ford, who testified in front of the Judicial committee last week.

Shortly after the vote, President Donald Trump tweeted, “Very proud of the U.S. Senate for voting “YES” to advance the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.”

Among those voting in the affirmative for Kavanaugh’s nomination—North Dakota Senator John Hoeven.

Among those voting in the negative for Kavanaugh’s nomination—North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp, and Minnesota Senators Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar.
