Inmate tests positive for COVID-19 at Cass County Jail

Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner tells WZFG News that the Cass County Jail has seen its first case of COVID-19 in the general population area of the jail.

According to Jahner, shortly after 9 a.m. today, Cass County Jail Administration notified him of a positive COVID-19 inmate who was housed in the general population unit. Jahner says the inmate entered the Cass County Jail on November 13, and was not identified in the isolation process, meaning the inmate was likely asymptomatic. The inmate was double-bunked, and sometime during the period of time since being brought to the general population unit, began showing symptoms.

As a safety precaution, Jahner says the jail has been placed on lockdown, in an effort to prevent any further spread of the virus. He says the inmate is currently in isolation on quarantine status at the jail.

The sheriff’s office is working to facilitate testing for all inmates and staff next week
