Fargo firefighters battle apartment fire Sunday

At 8:23 p.m. Sunday evening, Fargo Firefighters were dispatched to 2521 Villa Drive South. for a report of an apartment fire.  Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in an apartment located on the first floor.  Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire preventing it from spreading to other units.

The unit sustained heavy damage but all building occupants were able to safely evacuate.  One cat was found in the unit unresponsive.  Firefighters initiated resuscitation efforts but were not successful.  The unit was not tenable and one tenant was displaced.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
