Fargo Library to Host WWI Presentation Oct. 16

The Fargo Public Library will host a presentation by John Cox, professor of modern Eastern European history at North Dakota State University, titled “What Was So Great About the Great War?” on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the downtown Main Library.  The presentation is part of the 2018 One Book, One Community reading project.

Cox will discuss how World War I threw most of the world off its rails, and how the 4 1/2 years of ferocious fighting internationalized new ideas and ideologies in ways that no one could have predicted. The war’s tremendous death tolls and the collapse of four world empires represent only the starting point of the Great War's balance sheet.
